|Sendai is located approximately 350 kilometers to the north of Tokyo. It takes 100 minutes to move from Tokyo station to Sendai station by taking Shinkansen (Japanese bullet train). Along with domestic airports in major cities, Sendai Airport operates services to 6 overseas ones including Taipei and Beijing. It takes only about three hours to Narita International Airport with Shinkansen and Narita Express, as well as one and a half hours to Kansai International Airport by air.
The venue of the 60th meeting, Sendai International Center, is located at the foot of Mount Aoba, on which Sendai Castle used to stand.
In the vicinity of Sendai International Center, you also find the Miyagi Museum of Art, Sendai City Museum and some of Tohoku University's campuses. It takes about 10 minutes from Sendai Station to Sendai International Center by bus or taxi.
|From Narita Airport to Sendai|
Most foreign participants may arrive at Narita International Airport (New Tokyo International Airport). It is convenient to get to Sendai from Narita International Airport by railways.
At present, Narita Airport has two rail connections, operated by Keisei Electric Railway and JR (Japan Railway). Please select JR. Narita International Airport has two terminal buildings. You may arrive at either terminal 1 or 2 depending on your airline but both the terminals have their own train station. In general, you can find the way at the airports and JR railway stations, as there are many signboards, which are often written in Japanese and English. Trains to and from Narita stop at Narita Airport Station (Narita-ku-ko-eki) in Terminal 1 and Airport Terminal 2 Station (Ku-ko-daini-biru-eki) in Terminal 2.
You can buy tickets at the JR ticket counter at the railway station in the building of the Narita Airport. At the ticket counter, please ask for "tickets to Sendai by Narita Express and Tohoku Shinkansen with reserved (or non reserved), the ticket seller will choose the best trains you can get on. You may receive three tickets from Narita to Sendai; one ticket is for railway fare from Narita to Sendai (about JPY 7,000), the other two are for the supplemental charges for limited expresses of Narita Express from Narita to Tokyo (about JPY 1,700) and Tohoku Shinkansen from Tokyo to Sendai (about JPY 5,000). You can also buy the tickets from Sendai to Narita Airport. Narita Express will leave the station from the underground level.
Journey times between the airport and Tokyo Station vary from as little as 53 minutes to 1 hour and 10 minutes depending on the time of departure. When you arrived at Tokyo Station, please change to Tohoku Shinkansen Express (trains are named as Yamabiko or Max Yamabiko or Komachi) to Sendai (vary from 1 hour and 40 minutes to 2 hours and 35 minutes). To change the trains at the Tokyo Station, usually you have to walk 10-15 minutes.The Narita Express Train will arrive at the underground level in the JR Tokyo Station. Get off the train there and followgreen signs for "Tohoku Shinkansen”. You will find gates at the entrance of Shinkansen area. Fare ticket and Shinkansen ticket are needed there (ticket for the Narita Express is not needed anymore) and put together both the tickets (one upon another) and insert into the machine, then the gate will open. Do not forget receive the tickets. Your Shinkansen (Yamabiko, Max Yamabiko, or Komachi) will leave at the track 22 or 23. Please check the name and train number on your ticket and the signboard shown in the train. Leaving time is also important information worth to check. Find your seat as car number and seat number printed on the Shinkansen ticket. Enjoy your travel to Sendai.

|From Sendai to Narita Airport|
It is convenient to get to Narita International Airport from Sendai by railways. On the upper floor of JR Sendai Station, ticket gate of the Tohoku Shinkansen is located. If you do not have tickets to Narita Airport, visit the “Green Window” (Midori no Madoguchi) JR ticket counter.
The Tohoku Shinkansen depart for Sendai about every 30 minutes from the No.11 to No.14 platforms in Sendai Station. Fare ticket and Shinkansen ticket are needed at the ticket gate (ticket for the Narita Express is not needed) and put together both tickets and insert into the machine, then the gate will open. You will receive both tickets there. Please check the train name and the leaving time. Find your seat as car number and seat number printed on the Shinkansen ticket.
When you get off at Tokyo Station, again fare ticket and Shinkansen ticket are needed to open the gate. Do not forget to receive the fare tickets at the gate. Then, you will find an airplane mark for "Narita Airport” in JR Tokyo Station. Follow this airplane mark for "Narita Airport”. You will get to the platform of Narita Express Train at the underground level in Tokyo Station. To change the trains at the Tokyo Station, usually you have to walk 10-15 minutes. There is no gate to the platform of Narita Express Train. Again leaving time is also important information worth to check. Find your seat as car number and seat number printed on the Narita Express ticket. Trains to Narita stop at Narita Airport Station (Narita-kuko-eki) in Terminal 1 and Airport Terminal 2 Station (Kuko-daini-biru-eki) in Terminal 2.
